Acílio Estanqueiro Rocha
Professor Emeritus
Professor Acílio Rocha has a long teaching experience. He taught, namely, on the Major in Philosophy: Ancient Philosophy; Contemporary Philosophy; Philosophy in Portugal; Philosophical Anthropology; Social and Political Philosophy; History of Social and Political Ideas; History of Culture and Mentalities; Logic and Epistemology of Social Knowledge; European Construction; Contemporary Political Paradigms; “The Structural Anthropology of Lévi-Strauss” (seminar); “Dialectics and Structure in Contemporary Philosophy” (seminar).
He also held Courses and Lectures in Master Courses: History of Educational Thought I; History of Educational Thought II; Gnoseology and Ontology: Special problems; Themes in History of Philosophy; History of Ethical-Political Thought; Europe in the European Thought; Themes in the History of Political Philosophy. He supervised several masters thesis and doctoral dissertations.
Professor Rocha was the Director of the Department of Philosophy since 1986. Later on he also was Coordinator of the Major in International Relations (1992-1996) and of Research in Philosophy and Culture at the Center for Humanistic Studies. He was Vice President (1991-1994) and President of the Institute of Humanities (1994-2000), and finally Vice-Rector of the University of Minho (2002-2009).
