No entanto, os seus enquadramentos conceptuais recorrem frequentemente a reivindica\u00e7\u00f5es epist\u00e9micas amb\u00edguas, modelos idealizados, met\u00e1foras e analogias, atalhos pragm\u00e1ticos, pressupostos n\u00e3o examinados e, pode argumentar-se, at\u00e9 a ju\u00edzos de valor.<br \/>\nAinda assim, na nossa sociedade, a ci\u00eancia assumiu um papel cada vez mais importante no apoio a decis\u00f5es pol\u00edticas e \u00e9ticas. A significativa depend\u00eancia da opini\u00e3o cient\u00edfica e da modeliza\u00e7\u00e3o durante a pandemia de COVID-19, ou a utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de evid\u00eancia emp\u00edrica de senci\u00eancia como principal motor na formula\u00e7\u00e3o de legisla\u00e7\u00e3o sobre o bem-estar animal, ilustram como a ci\u00eancia influencia cada vez mais os decisores pol\u00edticos e se torna incorporada no racioc\u00ednio \u00e9tico e pol\u00edtico.<br \/>\nAs funda\u00e7\u00f5es epistemol\u00f3gicas e metaf\u00edsicas das ci\u00eancias da vida j\u00e1 n\u00e3o se encontram, portanto, confinadas aos c\u00edrculos acad\u00e9micos: sob a superf\u00edcie, moldam subtilmente a forma como os cidad\u00e3os percecionam o mundo.
